A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO APPROVE REGULATIONS OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, RELATING TO RENEWAL OF CREDENTIALS, DESIGNATED AS REGULATION DOCUMENT NUMBER 2397, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 23, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The regulations of the Board of Education, relating to renewal of credentials, designated as Regulation Document Number 2397, and submitted to the General Assembly pursuant to the provisions of Article 1, Chapter 23, Title 1 of the 1976 Code, are approved.

SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

SUMMARY AS SUBMITTED

BY PROMULGATING AGENCY.

The State Board of Education promulgated amendments to Regulation 43-55, Renewal of Credentials. The regulation clarifies requirements for those individuals seeking a teaching certificate in South Carolina. The proposed amendment:

(1) provides the closing date of the validity period;

(2) specifies the length of time for a regular credential after holding a temporary credential;

(3) clarifies the name of the office;

(4) clarifies the renewal credit requirements by eliminating redundancy and using concise language;

(5) clarifies language for credit earned through college courses;

(6) clarifies language, identifies the name of the office and level of acceptable accreditation;

(7) provides correct grammar in the regulation;

(8) inserts the name of the office;

(9) changes the requirements for renewal credit.
