A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF WAYNE ALAN PEACOCK OF MOUNTAIN REST ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2002, AND EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Wayne Alan Peacock on Tuesday, February 19, 2002; and

Whereas, Wayne Alan Peacock was born December 19, 1961, in Miami, Florida; and

Whereas, he suffered a devastating spinal cord injury in a diving accident on July 21, 1994, and is the only person known in the United States to have survived an injury of this magnitude; and

Whereas, Wayne Peacock was fortunate to have had an incredibly loving and supportive family and network of friends to help him through the trying times of his therapy; and

Whereas, with limited financial resources, unlimited family support, and the unselfish cooperation of the State of South Carolina, he not just survived, he flourished in his treatment for more than seven years; and

Whereas, Wayne Peacock lived independently with a family and an active life until he departed this life on February 19, 2002; and

Whereas, it is appropriate that the members of the General Assembly pause in their deliberations to honor and commemorate the life of such a strong and determined individual as Wayne Alan Peacock. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly express their profound sorrow upon the death of Wayne Alan Peacock of Mountain Rest on Tuesday, February 19, 2002, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Wayne Alan Peacock.
