A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING MRS. DAISY ASHLEY NEWSOME OF AIKEN COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND EXTENDING BEST WISHES TO THIS LOVELY SOUTHERN LADY AND REMARKABLE SOUTH CAROLINA NATIVE.

Whereas, Mrs. Daisy Ashley Newsome celebrates her one hundredth birthday on March 2, 2002; and

Whereas, Daisy Newsome, a native South Carolinian, was born, raised, and has lived her entire life in Aiken County and has witnessed first hand the development of South Carolina throughout the twentieth century; and

Whereas, she was a diligent student at Bettis Academy School and has been revered and respected throughout her life in the Bettis Academy Community; and

Whereas, Mrs. Newsome married Willie Newsome in September of 1930 and this union has been blessed with six children - Willie, Greatha Patricia, Doreatha, Freddie, Mamie Angela, and John David, fourteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mrs. Newsome, the matriarch of a very close, loving, and devoted family, began honing her homemaking skills and maternal instincts at an early age and her family has long since adored her loving, nurturing ways and admired her wisdom and strength of character; and

Whereas, she has been a loyal member of the Mount Cannan Baptist Church and enters her second century guided by her deep faith and strong Christian values; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are very pleased to have the opportunity to recognize the life of one of South Carolina's remarkable native daughters on the very happy and joyous occasion of her one hundredth birthday. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Daisy Ashley Newsome of Aiken County on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and extend best wishes to this lovely southern lady and remarkable South Carolina native.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Daisy Newsome.
