TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE RYAN SIMS OF SPARTANBURG FOR BEING DRAFTED NUMBER SIX BY THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS IN THE RECENT NFL DRAFT, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Ryan Sims became the highest ever NFL draft pick out of Spartanburg County when he was drafted number six by the Kansas City Chiefs in the recent NFL draft; and
Whereas, Ryan is the son of Sarah and Ronnie Sims of Spartanburg and has a younger sister who is a junior at Dorman High School where Ryan graduated in 1998; and
Whereas, Ryan Sims stands six feet, four inches tall, weighs two hundred ninety-one pounds, and was a defensive tackle for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before being drafted; and
Whereas, he is one semester short of graduating with a degree in Communications and hopes to complete his degree next year during the off-season; and
Whereas, Ryan Sims was a three-year starter at the University of North Carolina and earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and All-American recognition; and
Whereas, he was named Defensive Most Valuable Player in the Peach Bowl against Auburn and was selected first team All-ACC his senior year; and
Whereas, as part of the North Carolina defense, he allowed less than one hundred yards rushing in six of twelve games, including a season-low fifty-two yards against North Carolina State University; he had a total of fifty-one tackles and twenty-three solo tackles in the regular season; and he had a team-high twenty quarterback hurries and was credited with four pass deflections; and
Whereas, Ryan Sims recently hosted a children's show on Nickelodeon and was featured in Sports Illustrated and Ebony Magazine's most eligible bachelors section; and
Whereas, Ryan Sims has brought positive recognition to the State of South Carolina, and the members of the House of Representatives are proud to recognize him for his achievements in football. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Ryan Sims of Spartanburg for being drafted number six by the Kansas City Chiefs in the recent NFL draft, and to wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ryan Sims of Spartanburg.
