A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MR. G. DAVID DRAKE OF ORANGEBURG, AND EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Mr. George David Drake, age 64, of 738 Gue Street, Orangeburg, died Sunday, January 21, 2001, at his residence; and

Whereas, Mr. Drake was born in Anderson, a son of Mrs. Fleeta Campbell Drake and the late George W. Drake. Mr. Drake was a graduate of Erskine College in the Class of 1957; and

Whereas, Mr. Drake was employed by the South Carolina Department of Education and served as the supervisor of school bus services of Orangeburg County. Mr. Drake was also retired from the Belk-Hudson Group in Orangeburg; and

Whereas, Mr. Drake was a member of First Baptist Church, 1240 Russell Street, Orangeburg. Mr. Drake was also a member of Progress Masonic Lodge A.F.M. and of the Omar Shrine Temple in Charleston. He was a Life Member of the Edisto Shrine Club; and

Whereas, Mr. Drake served in the United States Army and in his later years was an appreciative friend and supporter of Hospice of the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg; and

Whereas, Mr. Drake's survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marie Baughman Drake of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Frederick E. (Nancy) Witt, Jr., of North Charleston, Mrs. William A. (Jamey) James, Jr., of Columbia, his mother, Mrs. Fleeta Campbell Drake, of Anderson; and a sister, Mrs. Glenn L. (Bonta) Smith of Anderson. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mr. G. David Drake of Orangeburg, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Marie Baughman Drake, of Orangeburg.
