A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE "LADY MAVERICKS" OF MAULDIN HIGH SCHOOL FOR WINNING THE 2000 STATE CLASS AAAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO COACH DELMER HOWELL FOR COACHING THE BOYS AND GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS FOR SEVENTEEN YEARS AND TWELVE STATE VICTORIES.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are very proud to have the opportunity to recognize the "Lady Mavericks" of Mauldin High School and Coach Delmer Howell on their recent Class AAAA cross country state championship; and

Whereas, the state cross country title is Mauldin's twelfth since 1982 and the school's first since 1997. The high school boys team was state champions in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1994, and 1995 while the girls team won state championships in 1983, 1986, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1997, and this past year, 2000; and

Whereas, it is particularly noteworthy to stress the many long, arduous hours of training and self-discipline required of these young women to become champions and we applaud their winning efforts; and

Whereas, the Mauldin girls cross country team members participating in the November, 2000 meet were Casey Phillips, Lisa Dill, Stephanie Lyons, Kristin Hull, Jennifer Hooten, and Nancy Nance; and

Whereas, the success of the 2000 Mauldin High School "Lady Mavericks" cross country team brings great pride and recognition to the school, to Greenville Country, and to the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives would like to publicly recognize and congratulate each member of the team and Coach Delmer Howell for this state championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives express their heartiest congratulations to the "Lady Mavericks" of Mauldin High School for winning the State AAAA cross country championship and to Coach Delmer Howell for coaching the boys and girls cross country teams for seventeen years and twelve state victories.
