A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND CATHERINE MACK, DAUGHTER OF NINA AND FRANK MACK, AND STUDENT AT HAMMOND SCHOOL IN COLUMBIA, FOR ACHIEVING A PERFECT SCORE OF SIXTEEN HUNDRED ON THE NATIONALLY RENOWNED COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION, THE SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST.

Whereas, Catherine Mack lives in the Sandy Run community of Calhoun County with her parents, Nina and Frank Mack, and her older brother, James; and

Whereas, Catherine is a junior at Hammond School in Columbia and preparing to attend college; and

Whereas, the General Assembly would like to put all colleges on notice that they will be in stiff competition to attract Catherine to attend their school; and

Whereas, Catherine achieved, in her junior year, the maximum score of sixteen hundred on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT); and

Whereas, the College Board, administrators of the test, documents that it is extremely rare for a junior to achieve the perfect score. In fact, the number of students achieving a perfect score is very small. Of 2.28 million SATs taken during the 1999-2000 school year, only 541 students earned a score of 1600, which calculates to be one perfect score for every 4,214 tests taken. Catherine truly joins an elite group; and

Whereas, not only has Catherine excelled at this test, she is a math whiz, loves biology, and will probably major in sciences in college. She participates in soccer and cross-country running at Hammond School and takes equestrian lessons; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly take great pride in the accomplishments of Catherine Mack and wish her every success in the rest of her high school career and in her college years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend Catherine Mack, daughter of Nina and Frank Mack, and student at Hammond School in Columbia, for achieving a perfect score of sixteen hundred on the nationally renowned college entrance examination, the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Catherine Mack.
