TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 9-11-43 SO AS TO REQUIRE EVERY STATE AGENCY EMPLOYING PERSONS TO PERFORM THE FUNCTIONS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO THE POLICE OFFICERS' RETIREMENT SYSTEM.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Article 1, Chapter 11, Title 9 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 9-11-43. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 9-11-40(1)(a), every state agency employing persons to perform the functions of law enforcement officers as defined in Section 23-6-400(D)(1) shall apply to the board for admission to the system. The application must be filed with the board no later than November 15, 2001."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
