A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE CAPTAIN DAVID IRBY, LIEUTENANT PAUL DRAKE, AND FIREFIGHTER ERIC BROWN FOR RECEIVING THE ANDERSON COUNTY COURAGE AND LIFESAVING AWARD, AND TO COMMEND THE ENTIRE WHITEFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR THEIR UNDYING COURAGE.

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly applauds Captain David Irby, Lieutenant Paul Drake, and Firefighter Eric Brown for receiving the Anderson County Courage and Lifesaving Award for their unyielding efforts at saving the lives of the citizens of Anderson County; and

Whereas, Captain David Irby, Lieutenant Paul Drake, and Firefighter Eric Brown responded to a mobile home fire on February 11, 2000. When the three brave men arrived on the scene of the fire, a bedroom and another room were completely engulfed in flames; and

Whereas, Lieutenant Drake and Firefighter Eric Brown, who was on his first structure fire call since his certification, entered the front door of the home and began attacking the fire in the home neighbors had reported was unoccupied. Barely audible over the roar of the fire, Firefighter Brown heard someone moaning; and

Whereas, the three firefighters entered the kitchen and found a victim on the floor. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released the following day; and

Whereas, the Whitefield Fire Department passionately and enthusiastically fights fires to save the lives and property of the citizens of Anderson County; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly express pride and gratitude to Captain David Irby, Lieutenant Paul Drake, and Firefighter Eric Brown for fighting fires and saving the lives of the people of Anderson County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Captain David Irby, Lieutenant Paul Drake, and Firefighter Eric Brown for receiving the Anderson County Courage and Lifesaving Award, and commend the entire Whitefield Fire Department for their undying courage.
