A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 57-3-195 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MAY ENTER INTO CONTRACTS WITH BONA FIDE FARMERS IN THE STATE'S TEN MOST ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED COUNTIES TO MAINTAIN THE RIGHTS-OF-WAY OF RURAL PORTIONS OF THE STATE'S HIGHWAYS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

    "Section 57-3-195.    Notwithstanding another provision of law, the Department of Transportation may enter into contracts with bona fide farmers in the state's ten most economically disadvantaged counties to maintain the rights-of-way of rural portions of the state's highways."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
