A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF BENJAMIN REID "BEN" HARRISON OF THE WALNUT GROVE COMMUNITY IN ROEBUCK, SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO EXTEND THEIR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY, MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly sadly note the passing on April 8, 2001, of Benjamin Reid "Ben" Harrison of the Walnut Grove Community in Roebuck, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Harrison, a native of Walnut Grove, was the son of Lewis M. and Mamie Layton Harrison and was a graduate of Pauline High School; and

Whereas, in the ninety years allotted him, Ben Harrison lived an exemplary life as an honest, hardworking farmer, a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather and faithful servant of the Lord; and

Whereas, Mr. Harrison's dedication and love for farming through many decades was only surpassed by his love and devotion to his family. He took immense pride in the life and success of his son Ben C. Harrison, a most able and distinguished attorney, also of the Walnut Grove Community; and

Whereas, Ben Harrison was the beloved husband of the late Irene Layton Harrison and is the proud grandfather of Ben C. Harrison, Jr., Suzanne H. Dantin, and Sherra B. Harrison and great grandfather of his namesake Benjamin Reid Harrison II, Ali Harrison, Dillon Harrison, and R. J. Dantin; and

Whereas, he was a loyal member of Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church and greatly respected by his fellow churchmen; being named a deacon of the church demonstrated great appreciation for and recognition of his deep faith and devotion to his church and congregation which he diligently and compassionately served; and

Whereas, Ben Harrison was dearly loved and deeply admired by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the South Carolina General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so they might note the passing of one of South Carolina's loyal native sons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the death of Benjamin Reid "Ben" Harrison of the Walnut Grove Community in Roebuck, South Carolina and extend their heartfelt sympathy to his family and many, many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Benjamin Reid "Ben" Harrison, in care of Mr. Ben C. Harrison.
