THE COMMITTEE ON FISH, GAME AND FORESTRY

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 4051) to recognize and commend the forest products industry in South Carolina for its commitment to responsible use of natural resources and for the creation and implementation of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

Has polled the Concurrent Resolution out majority favorable.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE FOREST PRODUCTS INDUSTRY IN SOUTH CAROLINA FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO RESPONSIBLE USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND FOR THE CREATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY INITIATIVE AS A MEANS TO THE RESPONSIBLE USE OF THE NATURAL RESOURCES OF THIS STATE.

Whereas, South Carolina's citizens take great pride in our State's rich bounty of forest resources, and the careful stewardship of these precious assets is essential to ensure that future generations will benefit from these resources; and

Whereas, the South Carolina forest products industry, in recognition of its stewardship responsibilities in nurturing the forest resource, has committed itself to the principle of sustainable forestry by implementing the Sustainable Forestry Initiative to provide education and promotion for sustainable forestry practices and monitoring of adherence to South Carolina forestry best management practices to ensure that forest resources are perpetuated for the benefit of future generations; and

Whereas, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative is a self-regulatory program based on environmentally responsible stewardship of forests, soils, air, water quality, wildlife habitat, and forest aesthetics; and

Whereas, the forest products industry is the State's third largest manufacturer supporting more than 30,000 jobs and an economic impact of more than 7.5 billion dollars; and

Whereas, the vital importance of the industry underscores the necessity for sustainable management of the State's more than twelve million acres of forestland. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend the forest products industry in South Carolina for its commitment to responsible use of natural resources and the creation and implementation of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative as a means to the responsible use of the natural resources of this State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the public and the press.
