A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE RESIDENTS OF THE TOWN OF JACKSON, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND ITS MAYOR, PATRICK D. SULLIVAN, ON THE CELEBRATION OF ITS FIFTIETH BIRTHDAY REUNION TO BE HELD ON JUNE 9, 2001.

Whereas, the community of Jackson-Silverton in Aiken County was established many years before the Town of Jackson was incorporated on May 26, 1951; and

Whereas, in 1950, when the United States Government announced that it would purchase large portions of Aiken County to construct the Atomic Energy Plant, the Town of Jackson was included in this tract of land; and

Whereas, in 1951, the federal government redrew the boundary for the Atomic Energy Plant to exclude the Town of Jackson; and

Whereas, in 1951, the Town of Jackson was incorporated and elected its first mayor, the Honorable Edgar L. Foreman, Sr.; and

Whereas, the town grew overnight with the influx of Atomic Energy Plant construction workers and former residents of Ellenton, Dunbartin, and Myers Mills who were displaced when the federal government purchased their communities to build the Atomic Energy Plant; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the Town of Jackson will celebrate its Fiftieth Birthday Reunion on June 9, 2001. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the residents of the Town of Jackson, South Carolina, and its Mayor, Patrick D. Sullivan, on the celebration of its Fiftieth Birthday Reunion.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Patrick D. Sullivan, Mayor of the Town of Jackson.
