TO CONGRATULATE THE HONORABLE RUFUS E. FERGUSON, CHIEF MAGISTRATE FOR ALLENDALE COUNTY ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MORE THAN TWENTY-SIX YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS A SUMMARY COURT JUDGE.
Whereas, the Honorable Rufus E. Ferguson is a native of the Town of Fairfax in Allendale County, and he and his wife, Susie, are the proud parents of two children; and
Whereas, he is a graduate of the Allendale County public school system; and
Whereas, Judge Ferguson attended Voorhees College and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Allen University; and
Whereas, he served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery and valor; and
Whereas, Judge Ferguson has served as a supervisor with Kenlon Mills, Inc., and since 1971 has been the owner and operator of Ferguson Shell Service Station in the Town of Fairfax; and
Whereas, in 1973 he was elected to a seat on Fairfax Town Council and served until his appointment as a county magistrate in 1975; and
Whereas, Judge Ferguson has been a life member of the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association for more than twenty years, a life member of the VFW Post #7607 in the Town of Fairfax, a member of the American Legion Post #0172, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans organization; and
Whereas, he is a faithful member of the Nazarene Baptist Church where he serves on the Deacon Board; and
Whereas, it has been brought to the attention of the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives that on June 30, 2001, Judge Ferguson will retire after serving more than twenty-five years as a Summary Court Judge for Allendale County and after serving nearly ten years as Chief Magistrate; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations to congratulate the Honorable Rufus E. Ferguson on the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Honorable Rufus E. Ferguson, Chief Magistrate for Allendale County, on his retirement after more than twenty-six years of distinguished service as a Summary Court Judge.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Chief Magistrate Ferguson.
