A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND EXTOL ELDER CLAUDIA BURRISS WILLIFORD OF ANDERSON FOR HER LIFETIME OF DEVOTION TO GOD AND LEADERSHIP IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH HER WORK AT SALEM PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AND TO WISH HER MANY MORE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE.

Whereas, Mrs. Claudia Burriss Williford of Anderson has selflessly committed her life to serving God and the people in her community; and

Whereas, Mrs. Williford's service began at a young age when she would drive her mother to meetings of the women of Salem Presbyterian Church. Since she attended all the meetings with her mother, she was invited to join the group; and

Whereas, Mrs. Williford attended Haynes Institute in Augusta, Georgia, for the required five consecutive summers and became a Sunday school teacher at Salem Presbyterian Church; and

Whereas, Mrs. Williford went to Morris Brown College in Atlanta and took her first teaching position at Deep Creek United Methodist Church Grammar School and later taught at Reed Street Elementary School before moving from Anderson to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1943; and

Whereas, in Philadelphia, Mrs. Williford soon became acquainted with Reeve Memorial Presbyterian Church where she became a Deacon, an Elder, and continued her work with the Presbyterian women until she returned to Anderson and Salem Presbyterian Church. Upon her return to Anderson in 1979, Claudia Williford continued to serve as Deacon and Elder and became Coordinator of the Presbyterian Women. She has attended two Presbyterian Church General Assemblies in Philadelphia and ushered at her first one; and

Whereas, Mrs. Claudia Williford was married to the late Timothy Williford. She is the mother of one son, Lee Williford, of Anderson, and has two granddaughters, Monica and Ashley. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and extol Elder Claudia Burriss Williford of Anderson for her lifetime of devotion to God and leadership in the community through her work at Salem Presbyterian Church and wish her many more years of dedicated service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Claudia Burriss Williford of Anderson.
