A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. WESTON FURGESS, JR., OF RICHLAND COUNTY UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS AN ACCOUNTANT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AS HE FULFILLS HIS DUTIES AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE LEXINGTON-RICHLAND ALCOHOL DRUG ABUSE COUNCIL.

Whereas, Mr. Weston Furgess, Jr., is a native of Columbia, South Carolina; and

Whereas, he is a graduate of C. A. Johnson High School and attended Allen University; and

Whereas, Mr. Furgess has been married to the former Deloris Waiters for the past thirty-five years, and together they are the proud parents of two daughters and have four lovely grandchildren; and

Whereas, he is a faithful member of the Providence Independent Methodist Church where he has served as treasurer since 1998; and

Whereas, he was recently elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Lexington-Richland Alcohol Drug Abuse Council (LRADAC) after serving on its Board of Directors for ten years which includes service as Vice Chairman in 1999 and 2000; and

Whereas, Mr. Furgess also chairs LRADAC's Adolescent Services Committee which brings staff and community stakeholders together to develop programs to increase and improve intervention and treatment opportunities for youth in LRADAC's service area; and

Whereas, under his leadership, the Adolescent Services Committee received the 1999 United Way Workplace Community Service Award; and

Whereas, on June 30, 2001, Mr. Furgess retired as an accountant with the Department of Agriculture after thirty-two years of dedicated service; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations to recognize the accomplishments of this son of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. Weston Furgess, Jr., of Richland County upon is retirement as an accountant with the Department of Agriculture, and wish him continued success as he fulfills his duties as Chairman of the Board of the Lexington-Richland Alcohol Drug Abuse Council.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Weston Furgess, Jr.
