A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE GREENVILLE HOSPITAL SYSTEM FOR ITS LEADERSHIP AND PROGRESS IN PROVIDING HEALTH CARE TO THE CITIZENS OF THIS STATE AND TO CONGRATULATE THE SYSTEM ON BEING NAMED ONE OF AMERICA'S TOP 100 INTEGRATED HEALTH CARE NETWORKS BY MODERN HEALTHCARE MAGAZINE.

Whereas, Modern Healthcare magazine has again named Greenville Hospital System one of America's top 100 integrated health care networks; and

Whereas, the Greenville Hospital System placed thirtieth on the publication's list, moving up fifty-eight positions in just one year; and

Whereas, this ranking illustrates how well the Greenville Hospital System has mastered the fundamentals of integrating operations of their acute-care hospitals and quantifies the hospital's progress as an industry leader in information systems, disease risk management, and business management; and

Whereas, the Greenville Hospital System was established in the late 1940's to provide health care to the people of Greenville County and is recognized as the nation's first integrated hospital system; the 1,081-bed system now includes three acute care hospitals as well as mental health and rehabilitation hospitals on five campuses throughout Greenville County; the system employees approximately seven thousand people, with more than nine hundred forty-five physicians on staff; and

Whereas, Greenville Hospital System not only provides basic health care to the residents of South Carolina, but also utilizes cutting-edge technology that helps to create an environment of teaching prominence known throughout the United States; and

Whereas, the Greenville Hospital System's corporate mission of providing high quality care in a cost-effective environment is proved each year by the numbers of patients served and its budget efficiencies; and

Whereas, in these times of soaring medical costs and impersonalized treatment, the General Assembly is proud to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of the Greenville Hospital System in maintaining quality, affordable health care for the residents of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the Greenville Hospital System for its leadership and progress in providing health care to the citizens of this State and congratulate the system on being named one of America's top 100 integrated health care networks by Modern Healthcare magazine.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Frank Pinckney as President and CEO of the Greenville Hospital System on behalf of the system's numerous employees.
