A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO MRS. SOUTH CAROLINA, NAN N. NORMAN OF MYRTLE BEACH, ON THE SPECIAL OCCASION OF BEING CROWNED "MRS. SOUTH CAROLINA AMERICA 2001".

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are proud to honor Mrs. South Carolina, Nan N. Norman of Myrtle Beach, for capturing the title "Mrs. South Carolina America 2001" at the Newberry Opera House on June 17, 2001; and

Whereas, Nan Norman graduated from the University of South Carolina and completed graduate studies at New York University Academy of Sciences and Harvard; and

Whereas, Nan has been married to Dr. Fred Norman for twenty-two wonderful years, and they are the proud parents of three daughters who attend the University of South Carolina and Coastal Carolina University; and

Whereas, in 1995, Nan established the Sweat Express, Women's Community Wellness Center, where she is an exercise instructor. Nan also is a diet counselor at Dr. Norman's Myrtle Beach Diet, a national speaker and writer of health and wellness issues, and was named Myrtle Beach's First Lady of Fitness by Coast Magazine; and

Whereas, in addition to her tremendous work in the health and wellness field, Nan has also been a volunteer substitute teacher and assistant track and cheerleading coach, as well as Sunday School teacher and youth leader at Ocean View Baptist Church; and

Whereas, during the Mrs. South Carolina America Pageant, Nan N. Norman prevailed in four out of the five independently judged categories: fitness, community service, congeniality, and longevity of marriage. She represented South Carolina in the Mrs. America 2001 Pageant in September in Honolulu. Nan was the oldest contestant in the national Mrs. America's competition in its twenty-five-year history; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to recognize and honor our own "Mrs. South Carolina America 2001", Nan N. Norman, who is a goodwill ambassador and role model for her community and the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their sincere congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. South Carolina America, Nan N. Norman of Myrtle Beach, on the special occasion of being crowned "Mrs. South Carolina America 2001".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to "Mrs. South Carolina America 2001", Nan N. Norman of Myrtle Beach.
