A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF DON CAUGHMAN OF WEST COLUMBIA ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2002, AND EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are deeply saddened by the death of Don Caughman of Lexington County on February 1, 2002; and

Whereas, David Don Caughman graduated from Lexington High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Caughman was a teacher at Airport High School from 1960-1963, and a former partner of Caughman's Meat Plant Inc., in Lexington. He was a procurement manager in the Division of General Services for the South Carolina Budget and Control Board; and

Whereas, Mr. Caughman was very active in Lexington County as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Board of Education, Optimist Club, Lions Club, Arts Association, and the Lexington Cotillion. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1967 from the Lexington Jaycees; and

Whereas, Don Caughman was also a member of the Board of Trustees of South Carolina State University and the Lander College Board of Trustees; and

Whereas, the General Assembly extends its sympathy to the family and friends of Don Caughman. He is survived by his wife, Lynda of West Columbia; his mother, Corrie Ward of Lexington; a daughter and son-in-law, Eliza and Caldwell Spence; two sons and daughters-in-law Montford and Deborah Caughman and Christopher and Michelle Caughman, all of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Drake, Clint, Rut, and Whit Spence, Logan, Mattison, and Truman Caughman, and Amy Chavis, all of Lexington; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Carole Caughman of Gilbert. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Don Caughman of West Columbia on Friday, February 1, 2002, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Lynda Caughman of West Columbia.
