A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR MR. JACOB PERRON GARVIN OF AIKEN COUNTY AS ONE OF THE LAST REMAINING FIRST-GENERATION DESCENDANTS OF A CONFEDERATE VETERAN AND TO WISH HIM MANY MORE YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, Jacob Perron Garvin is eighty-nine years of age and carries the torch of being one of the last remaining first-generation descendants, or "real sons," of a Confederate veteran from the Civil War; and

Whereas, Jacob Garvin is one of about a dozen first-generation descendants living in South Carolina, his father Jacob Aaron Garvin having served in Gunter Company I of the 20th South Carolina Infantry - Confederate States Army; and

Whereas, Mr. Garvin's father joined the Confederate Army at the age of sixteen in Charleston, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Garvin was honored at this year's re-enactment of the Battle of Aiken as the county's last "real son;" and

Whereas, Jacob Perron Garvin was twenty years old when his father passed away in 1932 and so he serves as a living link to those brave sons and daughters of the Palmetto State who, through blood, sweat, and tears, went about rebuilding our State after the physical and financial devastation of the Civil War. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Mr. Jacob Perron Garvin of Aiken County as one of the last remaining first-generation descendants of a Confederate veteran and wish him many more years of health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jacob Perron Garvin of Aiken County.
