TO COMMEND AND EXPRESS DEEPEST APPRECIATION TO THE SPARTANBURG COUNTY FOUNDATION, ITS TRUSTEES, CONSTITUENTS, AND STAFF FOR ITS OUTSTANDING AND GENEROUS INVESTMENT IN OUR SCHOOLS, AND FOR THIS PIONEERING PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP INVESTMENT IN OUR FUTURE THROUGH THE EDUCATION OF OUR YOUTH.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly recognize and honor the Spartanburg County Foundation for its exceptional contributions to the furtherance of education; and
Whereas, the Spartanburg County Foundation was founded in 1943, and is the oldest and largest community foundation in South Carolina; and
Whereas, the Spartanburg County Foundation has granted over forty-three million dollars in its history; and
Whereas, the primary focus of the Spartanburg County Foundation is on improving educational opportunities for the community's young people; and
Whereas, in 1999, the Spartanburg County Foundation made an exceptionally generous grant of $1,050,000, the largest grant in its history, to the seven school districts of Spartanburg County to fund after-school academic programs designed to improve student achievement; and
Whereas, this grant is in its third and final year and has resulted in creative and vibrant extended day academic programs in all seven school districts, serving over five hundred students each year; and
Whereas, the General Assembly is proud to honor the outstanding generosity of such a valuable and meaningful organization as the Spartanburg County Foundation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and express deepest appreciation to the Spartanburg County Foundation, its trustees, constituents, and staff for its outstanding and generous investment in our schools, and for this pioneering public-private partnership investment in our future through the education of our youth.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Spartanburg County Foundation.
