TO COMMEND THE SUMMERVILLE GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM FOR THEIR EXCELLENT SEASON OF COMPETITION AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM ON WINNING THE 2001 GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the Lady "Wave" Cross Country Team of Summerville High School, as a result of a remarkable team effort, lived up to their number one state ranking and won the 2001 state championship; and
Whereas, the 2001 edition of the Lady "Wave" Cross Country Team used their "winged feet" to bring the state championship home to Summerville for the first time since 1984; and
Whereas, in cross county races the finishing places of a team's top five runners are added to determine the team's score; therefore, a team is only as good as its fifth place runner, and in the case of the Summerville girls team, that is pretty good; and
Whereas, the Lady "Wave" overcame injury and illness to three of its best runners to out-place the girls from Spartanburg by a score of eighty-six to ninety-eight in what proved to be a dramatic finish to an exciting season; and
Whereas, the 2001 Summerville Girls Cross Country Team was made up of dedicated student-athletes including Audrey Bone, Haley Chura, Brittany Harmon, Carlissa Heyward, Katie Hodge, Sara Johannesmeyer, Brittany Jones, Kelsey Jones, Heather Lisle, and Amanda Pulliam; the team has flourished under the direction of Head Coach Bob Crowley; and
Whereas, the top fifteen finishers in the event were named to the All-State Cross Country team, which included Summerville's Haley Chura and Amanda Pulliam; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are happy to recognize the tremendous accomplishments of the Summerville Girls Cross Country Team and wish the team members great success in all their future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend the Summerville Girls Cross Country Team for their excellent season of competition and congratulate the team on winning the 2001 Girls Cross Country State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Bob Crowley on behalf of the Lady "Wave" Cross Country team of Summerville High School.
