A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE VOLUNTEERS OF JACKSON FIRST ALERT WHO RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES IN AND AROUND THE TOWN OF JACKSON IN AIKEN COUNTY, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON BEING NAMED THE 2001 SMALL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES SYSTEM OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ASSOCIATION.

Whereas, the Jackson First Alert response team was named the 2001 South Carolina Small Emergency Medical Services System of the Year, a competitive and prestigious award that the volunteers worked very hard to receive; and

Whereas, Jackson First Alert began in 1979 and was declared an eleemosynary corporation by the Secretary of State in January of 1980. The service operated out of two homes until 1992, when it obtained its current headquarters on Highway 125 in the Town of Jackson in Aiken County; and

Whereas, Jackson First Alert currently has six paramedics, six intermediates, two basics, and six first responders, for a total of seventeen regular members and three auxiliary members, who respond to circumstances of persons in need; and

Whereas, this dedicated group uses two fully equipped ambulances and a rescue truck with "Jaws of Life" and other heavy equipment; and

Whereas, the Jackson First Alert motto is "We Sustain Life", and their goal is to serve every need in the area; and

Whereas, the service is very active in community activities, providing an ambulance for Silver Bluff High School football games, NJROTC events, band clinics, Carolina Dragway races, and other events that request an ambulance. The volunteers also periodically provide glucose and blood pressure checks in the community; and

Whereas, the volunteers speak to Girl Scout groups, Senior Citizen groups, and church groups, and transfer members of the community to and from hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and doctors' offices; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to recognize this worthy and valuable organization and commend it on receiving the 2001 Small Emergency Medical Services System of the Year Award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor the volunteers of Jackson First Alert who respond to emergencies in and around the Town of Jackson in Aiken County and congratulate them on being named the 2001 Small Emergency Medical Services System of the Year by the South Carolina Emergency Medical Services Association.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jackson First Alert in Jackson, South Carolina.
