A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE DORCHESTER ACADEMY RAIDER VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ON NOVEMBER 16, 2001.

Whereas, Dorchester Academy won the South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Championship in Orangeburg on November 16, 2001; and

Whereas, the Dorchester Academy team was undefeated this season with five shutout wins, and the members were awarded the South Carolina Independent School Association Region II AA Champions; and

Whereas, in the state playoffs, the Raiders defeated Thomas Sumter 47-13, St. Andrews 28-7, and Colleton Prep 13-7, stopping a final drive by Colleton Prep inside the five yard line in the last minute of the game; and

Whereas, members of the dominating Dorchester team were Clark Felder, Brandon McClure, Drew Darden, Andy Branan, Brent Jackson, Gregory Rice, Robert Murphy, Sandy Dukes, Jacques Roumillat, Joel Roumillat, Matthew Pope, Le Pope, Landon Wimberly, Brandon Bazzle, Andy McCants, Barry Roach, Jr., Kevin Dantzler, Sam Hartzog, Andrew Sloan, Eddie Fisher, Chris Myers, Wes Brickle, John Cooper, Josh Canady, and captains, Bill McKinnon and Stephen Britt; and

Whereas, the team was led by head coach, Stanley Gruber, and assistant coaches, Bobby Johnston, Dwayne Windham, Harry Bowers, and Larry Windham; and

Whereas, support for the team also came from the trainers, manager, bus driver, and cheerleaders; and

Whereas, this was the fourth State Championship earned by Coach Gruber, who was named Coach of the Year by the Orangeburg, S.C. Times and Democrat and the High School Sports Report; and

Whereas, among the outstanding players on the Dorchester Academy team, Le Pope was named to the All-Region team; Brandon McClure was named Offensive Player of the Year; Chris Myers was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year; and Bill McKinnon, Stephen Britt, Robert Murphy, Le Pope, and John Cooper were named to the SCISA North All-Star Team; and

Whereas, the General Assembly applauds the Dorchester Academy Varsity Football Team, coaches, and staff for their phenomenal season and outstanding championship win. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the players, coaches, and staff of the Dorchester Academy Raider Varsity Football Team upon winning the South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Championship on November 16, 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Dorchester Academy Raider Varsity Football Team.
