A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE ALLEN UNIVERSITY CLASS OF 1952 ON THE OCCASION OF ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR AND TO COMMEND THE CLASS OF 1952 ON ITS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES AND ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the Class of 1952 entered Allen University during the post war era of World War II; and

Whereas, the year 1948 was a time of change and uncertainty. President Truman was serving out the term of office he had ascended to as President of the United States after the death of President Roosevelt; and

Whereas, when the Class of 1952 graduated from Allen University, another war, the Korean War, lingered heavily over the minds of the graduates. Upon graduation, many of the men were inducted into the military. Other members of the class went into the world to work or set out to pursue a graduate degree; and

Whereas, the Class of 1952 has been very productive. From this class many excellent teachers, preachers, school administrators, postal employees, and entrepreneurs have emerged including a Bishop of the AME Church in the person of Bishop Vernon R. Byrd; and

Whereas, Allen University and the State of South Carolina are very proud of the many accomplishments of the Class of 1952; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize Allen University's Class of 1952 collectively and each member of the class individually for all that these graduates have achieved over the past fifty years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate the Allen University Class of 1952 on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary this year and commend the Class of 1952 on its many accomplishments in a wide range of activities and endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Allen University.
