A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE 2002 PALMETTO FELLOWS SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS AND TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO PURSUE EXCELLENCE IN FUTURE SCHOLASTIC ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly established the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Program to foster high academic performance among the state's postsecondary students; and

Whereas, the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship program is administered by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and seeks to retain outstanding South Carolina high school graduates in the Palmetto State by presenting those students with financial awards based on their scholastic achievement; and

Whereas, the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship program has been enormously successful in recognizing the most academically talented high school seniors in South Carolina and encouraging them to attend eligible colleges or universities in this State; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina has awarded over thirty-eight hundred Palmetto Fellows Scholarships to South Carolina students since 1988; and

Whereas, May 15, 2002, has been proclaimed as Palmetto Fellows Day by the Governor of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the South Carolina House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor the 2002 Palmetto Fellows Scholarship recipients for their outstanding high school academic achievements and encourage them to pursue excellence in future scholastic endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Commission on Higher Education in Columbia.
