A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS EMPLOYEE STERLING JORDAN OF COLUMBIA FOR HIS LEADERSHIP AND DEDICATION TO HIS POSITION AS A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER.

Whereas, Correctional Officer Sterling Jordan began his career with the South Carolina Department of Corrections on January 16, 1995, and is currently employed at the Watkins Pre-Release Center in Columbia; and

Whereas, Mr. Jordan is responsible for supervising the inmates to ensure that their assigned duties are carried out; monitoring inmate activity to maintain order and control at the facility; conducting security checks, inspections, and searches; and monitoring and observing safety and sanitation standards. He also prepares written reports of violations as necessary; and

Whereas, when problems or incidents involving inmates occur, Mr. Jordan handles them in a professional manner and refers them to the proper personnel within institutional time frames; and

Whereas, Sterling Jordan is also responsible for conducting formal and informal counts in compliance with institutional policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and report any discrepancies; and

Whereas, Mr. Jordan works well with co-workers and supervisors and displays his dedication by working various shifts when needed; and

Whereas, he exhibits extreme professionalism when working with inmates, their families, other staff, and the public; and

Whereas, Mr. Jordan demonstrates leadership potential by taking the initiative to correct problems and make improvements to provide for a positive work environment. He was recognized for his leadership in 2000 with the Correctional Officer of the Year Award; and

Whereas, Sterling Jordan previously served in the United States Navy where he received numerous decorations, medals, badges, and ribbons before being honorably discharged; and

Whereas, Sterling Jordan is a proven leader among the officers at the Watkins Pre-Release Center, and the General Assembly is pleased to recognize him for his accomplishments. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend South Carolina Department of Corrections employee Sterling Jordan of Columbia for his leadership and dedication to his position as a correctional officer.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Correctional Officer Sterling Jordan of Columbia.
