TO COMMEND NANCY M. SMITH OF AIKEN COUNTY, FOR HER LONG AND OUTSTANDING CAREER AS A TEACHER, PRINCIPAL, AND ADMINISTRATOR AND TO WISH HER MANY YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS UPON HER RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Nancy M. Smith of Aiken County, will be retiring as the Assistant Superintendent for Area 2 schools in Aiken after thirty-seven wonderful years of working to educate the young people of this State; and
Whereas, Mrs. Smith received her bachelor's degree from Furman in 1955 and later earned several graduate degrees in education from the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Nancy Smith began her career as a math and science teacher in Brookland-Cayce public schools in 1955 and continued teaching children in grades four through six until she became the principal of Belvedere School in 1973; she later served as principal at Hammond Hill School and for the Aiken Area 2 Summer Program; and
Whereas, in 1980, Mrs. Smith became the Elementary Supervisor at the Area 2 District Office where she later became the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Improvement; although she initially retired in 1992, her love for education brought her back to the Area 2 District Office in 1996, where she worked until her final retirement in 2002; and
Whereas, Mrs. Smith is a loving wife and mother of three children, two of whom have followed their mother's path into the field of education; she is a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of North Augusta; and
Whereas, Nancy Smith is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development; she is also involved with the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Teachers' Society; and
Whereas, the General Assembly is proud to recognize Nancy Smith for the thirty-seven years she has spent making a difference in the lives of thousands of young people and hope that others will follow the example of hard work, service, and commitment that she has set. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Nancy M. Smith for her long and outstanding career as a teacher, principal, and administrator and wish her many years of health and happiness upon her retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Nancy M. Smith of North Augusta, South Carolina.
