              Versions of This Bill

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE LANDRUM HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2002 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN, AND TO WISH THEM MUCH ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, the Landrum High School Boys Baseball Team defeated Lake View High School 5-0 in the final game of the three game series to win the 2002 Class A State Championship title at Lexington High School; and

Whereas, Landrum won the Region II-A and District II titles and clinched the Class A Upper State Championship title in a 3-1 victory against Lewisville High School which put them in the State Championship game; and

Whereas, the Cardinals defeated Lake View 10-1 in the first game of the State Championship series, but the Wild Gators fought back in game two with a 6-1 victory, forcing the third tie-breaker game; and

Whereas, this State Championship win is the first since 1975 for the Cardinals Baseball Team, which finished the excellent season with twenty-four wins and only five losses; and

Whereas, Coach Travis Henson is in his second season as head coach of the Cardinals and is the driving force that pushed the team toward its victories; and

Whereas, Coach Henson has been surrounded by baseball all his life. His father, Jerry Henson, was the baseball coach at Blue Ridge High School where Coach Henson and his brother, Trent, were star players; and

Whereas, Trent Henson is now Coach Travis Henson's assistant coach, and Jerry Henson is the scorekeeper, groundskeeper, and voice of experience. Mrs. Henson even has the job of setting up the video camera behind home plate to record the pitching and hitting; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to recognize such a dedicated team as the Landrum High School Boys Baseball Team upon winning the 2002 Class A State Championship title. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the players, coaches, and staff of the Landrum High School Baseball Team for their outstanding 2002 Class A State Championship win, and wish them much athletic and academic success in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Landrum High School Baseball Team.
