TO COMMEND THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE GREENVILLE GRRROWL ON THEIR TERRIFIC SEASON OF COMPETITION AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING THE EAST COAST HOCKEY LEAGUE'S 2002 KELLY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the Greenville Grrrowl capped an outstanding season of play by winning its first East Coast Hockey League Kelly Cup Championship; and
Whereas, the Greenville Grrrowl is the East Coast Hockey League's affiliate of the National Hockey League's Atlanta Thrashers and Boston Bruins, the Grrrowl having entered the league in 1998; and
Whereas, the Grrrowl has energized the Upstate of South Carolina for ice hockey, a sport traditionally enjoyed in the frozen lands of the northern United States and Canada; and
Whereas, the players for the Grrrowl have exhibited tremendous dedication and hard work over the last four years and have amassed a regular season record of 149 wins, 107 losses, and twenty-eight ties; and
Whereas, the Grrrowl is led by Head Coach, John Marks, who also serves as the team's Vice President of Hockey Operations; Coach Marks is a former National Hockey League All-Star who now has an overall fifteen-year regular season head-coaching record of 589-428-78 and is the first and only coach to have led two different teams to an East Coast Hockey League championship; and
Whereas, the team's staff includes assistant coach, Nick Vitucci, who holds every league goal-tending record and won four league titles as a player from 1988 through 2001; also assisting the team are head trainer, Chris Young, and assistant trainer, Charlie Dallas; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to recognize and celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of the Greenville Grrrowl Hockey Team and wish the team great success in the future. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the South Carolina House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend the players, coaches, and staff of the Greenville Grrrowl on their terrific season of competition and congratulate them on winning the East Coast Hockey League's 2002 Kelly Cup Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach John Marks on behalf of the entire Greenville Grrrowl Hockey Team.
