A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE THAD E. SALEEBY DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER OF DARLINGTON COUNTY FOR ITS EXCELLENT SERVICE TO PERSONS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE CENTER ON ITS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL RECERTIFICATION SURVEY WITH A SCORE OF ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.

Whereas, the Thad E. Saleeby Developmental Center of Darlington County is named after the late Thad Eli Saleeby, an attorney and native Hartsvillian; and

Whereas, he served the State of South Carolina in the House of Representatives, was a member of the State Highway Commission and was instrumental in the establishment of the Commission for the Department of Mental Retardation where he served as a charter member; and

Whereas, Mr. Saleeby, being disabled from polio, had firsthand knowledge of the needs of people with disabling conditions; and

Whereas, the Saleeby Center admitted its first individual on January 14, 1975; the structure originally provided services for eighty-eight individuals and later expanded to one hundred thirty-two; and currently the center is licensed for ninety-six individuals and is furnished with state-of-the-art medical equipment; and

Whereas, the Saleeby Center is the only facility in the State that offers a physical design which provides a consistent, stable climate for medically challenged and developmentally disabled persons under one roof, and has an active treatment service delivery system that focuses on blending medical, developmental, therapeutic, and residential services; and

Whereas, the Saleeby Center is a genuine community lifeline and is rendering splendid service and assistance to those in need; and

Whereas, the center recently had its Department of Health and Environmental Control recertification survey and the facility was one hundred percent and Hartsville is fortunate to have the Thad E. Saleeby Residential Facility as a part of the active community in serving people with disabilities. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina commend the Thad E. Saleeby Developmental Center of Darlington County for its excellent service to persons with special needs, and congratulate the center on its Department of Health and Environmental Control recertification survey with a score of one hundred percent.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Thad E. Saleeby Developmental Center.
