A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND KHALIL GREENE OF THE CLEMSON UNIVERSITY BASEBALL TEAM FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE DIAMOND AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON BEING NAMED THE 2002 ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, Khalil Greene was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Year on May 27, 2002, becoming the first player from Clemson University to earn that honor since 1996; and

Whereas, Khalil Greene set two prominent Atlantic Coast Conference career records during Clemson's series with Virginia in May of 2002; he now holds the league record for most career hits with 367 and the league record for most career doubles with 83; and

Whereas, while breaking Atlantic Coast Conference records, Khalil Greene has also left his mark at Clemson, having set new school records for career at-bats, hits, doubles, total bases, extra base hits, and runs batted in; and

Whereas, Khalil Greene credits his dedicated weight room habits and pre-game stretch routine for holding the record at Clemson for number of games played, having participated in every game (262) since becoming a Tiger in 1999; furthermore, he has started all but one of those games making his total number of consecutive starts 259; and

Whereas, perhaps Khalil Greene's proudest accomplishment is his outstanding career fielding percentage of .942, including a school record percentage of .965 that he achieved during the 2001 season as a shortstop; and

Whereas, Khalil Greene currently occupies second place on the National Collegiate Athletic Association's all-time career hits list; and

Whereas, during his time as student-athlete at Clemson University, Khalil Greene has set a standard of excellence on the field that will be forever remembered not only by the Tiger faithful, but also by college baseball fans around the country. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Khalil Greene of the Clemson University Baseball Team for his outstanding accomplishments on the diamond and congratulate him on being named the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Khalil Greene of Clemson University.
