TO HONOR CHARLOTTE JAMES, A GREENVILLE COUNTY PARAMEDIC WHO WAS INJURED IN A FIRE DURING AN EQUIPMENT INSPECTION ON AUGUST 27, 1998, AND COMMEND HER AS WELL AS ALL SOUTH CAROLINA EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WORKERS FOR THEIR BRAVERY IN AN EVER CHALLENGING PROFESSION.
Whereas, Charlotte James, a Greenville County paramedic was injured in a fire which started when she was performing an inspection of equipment during a shift change on August 27, 1998; and
Whereas, during the inspection, Charlotte James turned on a portable oxygen tank to check the level of the oxygen when it exploded causing first and second degree burns on her left hand, both forearms, and both thighs; and
Whereas, Charlotte James was treated immediately by other paramedics, which made a difference in her recovery. She returned to the field as a paramedic, but has recently begun working parttime in order to raise a family; and
Whereas, Charlotte James will be presented a Purple Heart Award by the Emergency Medical Services Department at a ceremony during Emergency Medical Services Week, May 20-26, 2001; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate recognize and honor Charlotte James who was badly injured on the job during an equipment inspection and thank all Emergency Medical Services workers who risk their lives to save others. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor Charlotte James, a Greenville County paramedic who was injured in a fire during an inspection on August 27, 1998, and commend her as well as all South Carolina Emergency Medical Services workers for their bravery in an ever challenging profession.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Charlotte James in Greenville.
