EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE HONORABLE RUFUS E. FERGUSON, SUMMARY COURT JUDGE FOR ALLENDALE COUNTY, FOR HIS MORE THAN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF SERVICE ON THE BENCH UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, the Honorable Rufus E. Ferguson, Summary Court Judge for Allendale County, retires June 30, 2001, after more than twenty-five years serving the citizens of that county and this State; and
Whereas, he also steps down after serving as Chief Magistrate for almost ten years; and
Whereas, his public service began as Town Councilman, from which position he resigned to take the bench in 1975; and
Whereas, even before that he served his country, winning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star in the Korean Conflict; and
Whereas, he used his Business Education degree from Allen University to successfully own and operate a Shell Service Station and, more recently, the Greyhound bus station; and
Whereas, Judge Ferguson is a member of the State Summary Court Judges Association, VFW Post 7607 in Fairfax, American Legion Post 0172, and Disabled Veterans; and
Whereas, he is dedicated to his church, Nazarene Baptist Church, and to his loving wife and two children. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate express the gratitude of the State of South Carolina to the Honorable Rufus E. Ferguson, Summary Court Judge for Allendale County, for his more than twenty-five years of service on the bench upon the occasion of his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Judge Ferguson.
