A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE SOUTH CAROLINA MANUFACTURERS ALLIANCE (SCMA) ON ITS ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY, AND SALUTING THE SCMA FOR ITS CENTURY OF LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE TO THE PALMETTO STATE.

Whereas, the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) is the trade association for manufacturing firms with plants in South Carolina; the SCMA, established in 1902, originally served textile manufacturers and was known as the South Carolina Textile Manufacturers Association (SCTMA); and

Whereas, the association began as a forum for exchanging ideas about production techniques and labor recruitment; and

Whereas, in 1997, the SCTMA was transformed into a broader-based organization known as SCMA to serve all Palmetto State manufacturers; today the SCMA has eighty-eight member companies and not only gives manufacturers a stronger, more dominant voice statewide, but also allows manufacturing firms to work together to strengthen industry and improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians; and

Whereas, membership consists of manufacturing firms that operate machines for the manufacture or processing of products in at least one plant; a company may actually have several SCMA-member plants in the State; two of the state's public utilities are associate members of the SCMA; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize this outstanding organization on the happy occasion of its centennial celebration of excellent and important public service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) on its one hundredth anniversary and salute this fine organization for its century of leadership and service to the Palmetto State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance.
