A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND JAMES D. BATCHLER OF CHEROKEE COUNTY FOR HIS TIME AND EFFORT GIVEN TO HELP RAISE FUNDS TO ESTABLISH A LIBRARY IN BLACKSBURG AND HIS MANY OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, James D. Batchler has been a strong advocate for the betterment of Cherokee County through his involvement in the community and his continuous support of such public service agencies as Services to the Aging, Rural Fire Departments, Public Library, Mental Retardation Board, and Recreation District; and

Whereas, James D. Batchler has been a lifetime resident of Cherokee County and is married to the former Lucille Pierce. He has two children, Craig and Barbara, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, as a member of the Cherokee County Council, Mr. Batchler was the Council's Chairman in 1984, 1989, and 1990, and he has served as Chairman of the Finance Committee, Public Works Committee, Judicial Services Committee, and Human Services Committee; and

Whereas, Mr. Batchler was instrumental in converting the old hospital building into the Peachtree Center, which now provides health care services for the elderly; and

Whereas, he has also been a strong supporter of law enforcement in Cherokee County, helping to replace the fleet of vehicles and increase the number of the Sheriff's Patrol; and

Whereas, Mr. Batchler has been involved in many aspects of Cherokee County and the State as a member of the Board of Directors for the Appalachian Council of Governments, the Workforce Investment Council, and the South Carolina Association of Counties Advisory Board. He has helped raise money to provide water for the Cherokee Falls area and for new roads; and

Whereas, he is also a member of the Buffalo Masonic Lodge 202, the Board of Directors for the CKC Volunteer Fire Department, and the Hopewell Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to recognize James D. Batchler for his outstanding contributions to Cherokee County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend James D. Batchler of Cherokee County for his time and effort given to help raise funds to establish a library in Blacksburg and his many other contributions to the community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. James D. Batchler.
