A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 59-150-370, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO HOPE SCHOLARSHIPS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE SCHOLARSHIP BE AUTOMATICALLY FUNDED FROM THE GENERAL FUND TO THE EXTENT REQUIRED TO PROVIDE THE SCHOLARSHIP TO ALL ELIGIBLE RECIPIENTS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 59-150-370 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding an appropriately designated subsection at the end to read:

"( )    There is automatically appropriated from the general fund of the State whatever amount is necessary to provide the HOPE Scholarships authorized by this section to all eligible recipients."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor and applies to scholarships awarded for the 2004-2005 and subsequent academic years.
