A JOINT RESOLUTION

PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO SECTION 24 OF ARTICLE III, SECTION 3 OF ARTICLE VI, AND SECTION 1A OF ARTICLE XVII, OF THE CONSTITUTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1895, RELATING TO DUAL OFFICEHOLDING AND QUALIFICATION FOR OFFICE, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE PROHIBITION AGAINST HOLDING TWO OFFICES DOES NOT APPLY TO MUNICIPAL POLICE OFFICERS WHO HOLD ANOTHER OFFICE.

If any member accepts or exercises any of the disqualifying offices or positions he shall vacate his seat."

SECTION    2.    The proposed amendment must be submitted to the qualified electors at the next general election for representatives. Ballots must be provided at the various voting precincts with the following words printed or written on the ballots:

"Must Section 24 of Article III of this State be amended so as to add municipal police officers as persons who are exempt from the prohibition against members of the General Assembly holding two offices?

No person may hold two offices of honor or profit at the same time, but any person holding another office may at the same time be an officer in the militia, member of a lawfully and regularly organized fire department, constable, municipal police officer, or a notary public.
