A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 57-25-225 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A STATE OR LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL ENTITY SHALL NOT REMOVE OR CAUSE TO BE REMOVED A LAWFULLY ERECTED SIGN IN VIEW OF AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, ROADWAY, OR STREET WITHOUT JUSTLY COMPENSATING ITS OWNER.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 25, Title 57 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 57-25-225.    Notwithstanding another provision of law, a state or local governmental entity shall not remove or cause to be removed a lawfully erected sign located in the view of an interstate highway, roadway, or street without justly compensating its owner."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
