VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND SECTION 59-150-250, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO MISDEMEANOR OFFENSES FOR MINORS AND PERSONS INCARCERATED PURCHASING OR ACCEPTING A LOTTERY TICKET SO AS TO CREATE A MISDEMEANOR FOR A PERSON RECEIVING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE PURCHASING A LOTTERY TICKET AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 59-150-250 of the 1976 Code, as added by Act 59 of 2001, is amended by adding an appropriately lettered subsection to read:
"( ) A person who receives public assistance who knowingly purchases a lottery game ticket is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must perform twenty hours of public service or be imprisoned for not less than ten days or more than thirty days, or both."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
