A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE ORVILLE VAN, "O.V.", PLAYER, JUNIOR, OF SUMTER COUNTY FOR RECEIVING THE PRESIDENT'S CUP AWARD FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES FOR THE UNPRECEDENTED THIRD TIME AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to recognize Orville Van Player, Junior, for receiving one of the highest honors bestowed by the South Carolina Association of Counties; and

Whereas, Mr. Player, the Sumter County Clerk of Court since 1973, has served on the local school board for more than twenty years. He has been fully involved with the South Carolina Association of Counties for most of its thirty-five year history; and

Whereas, "Mr. O.V." served as president of the South Carolina Association of Counties in 1986, and received the President's Cup previously in 1988 and 1994. He is the only person to receive the award for the third time; and

Whereas, he has served in many leadership roles in the South Carolina Association of Counties and was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the sixteenth consecutive year. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1995, the Association's highest honor; and

Whereas, the President's Cup is presented each year to the county official who has merited special recognition for his service and assistance to the Association's president during the past year. This much beloved legend in the past, present, and future of the South Carolina Association of Counties received the award in recognition of his continued and boundless support and dedication to the Association; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to recognize O.V. Player, Junior, for receiving the President's Cup Award from the South Carolina Association of Counties for the third time and to honor his lifetime of dedication to local government. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives commend and congratulate Orville Van "O.V." Player, Junior, of Sumter County for receiving the President's Cup award from the South Carolina Association of Counties for the unprecedented third time and wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Orville Van Player, Junior, of Sumter.
