A HOUSE RESOLUTION

APPLAUDING HEAD COACH NATE THOMPSON OF GEORGETOWN COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS HARD-FOUGHT 2002 CLASS AA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN LEADING THE CARVERS BAY HIGH SCHOOL "BEARS" TO THE STATE TITLE IN ONLY THE THIRD YEAR OF THEIR FOOTBALL PROGRAM.

Whereas, Carvers Bay High School Head Coach Nate Thompson took a fledgling football team from a three-year-old program to Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia December 7, 2002, and returned to Georgetown County with the State AA crown; and

Whereas, Coach Thompson and his staff succeeded in melding players from the former rival Choppee and Pleasant Hill football teams into a united group with a common goal: winning the state title for their new school and their united communities; and

Whereas, the 21-19 victory in the championship game accomplished that goal set by the "Bears" and won accolades for Coach Thompson as a 2002 Carolina Panthers High School Coach of the Week; and

Whereas, both the coaching staff and the "Bears" players achieved even more from that hard-fought win: they have become positive role models for a new community learning to unite its students, athletes, and fans. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina hereby applaud Head Coach Nate Thompson of Georgetown County on the occasion of his hard-fought 2002 Class AA Football Championship in leading the Carvers Bay High School "Bears" to the state title in only the third year of their football program.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Nate Thompson.
