A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE UNION HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM FOR TAKING THE 2002 CLASS AAA STATE TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize the Union High School Football Team for winning the Class AAA State Championship and for the dedication and hard work the young men exemplified throughout the 2002 season; and

Whereas, with fourteen wins and only one loss the Union High School Yellow Jackets' remarkable season propelled them to the State Championship game where they defeated Camden sixty-one to twenty-eight in Columbia to win their third State Championship in the past four seasons; and

Whereas, Camden suffered seven turnovers including three interceptions that Union translated into five touchdowns and thirty-four points; and

Whereas, the Yellow Jacket offense boasted three hundred eighty-six total yards, with two hundred forty yards through the air, accounting for two passing touchdowns and six rushing touchdowns; and

Whereas, the Union Yellow Jackets had many outstanding players this season, including Eric Young, named to the Parade All-American team, a finalist for South Carolina's Mr. Football Award, and a member of the South Carolina Varsity All-State team, and David Smith who also played on the South Carolina Varsity All-State team; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Coach Michael Anthony, Union has played in the past four Class AAA State Championship games, and lost only last year to Camden. Coach Anthony attributes the success of the Yellow Jackets to his outstanding assistant coaches and staff; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to recognize the Union High School Yellow Jackets football team, coaches, and staff for winning their third Class AAA State Championship. Now therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the Union High School Football Team for taking the 2002 Class AAA State Title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Union High School Football Team.
