A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM ON WINNING THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE CLASS AAA VOLLEYBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, COMMEND THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR A SEASON OF SPIRITED COMPETITION AND TREMENDOUS SUCCESS, AND WISH THEM EVERY SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the Pickens High School Girls Volleyball Team has dominated the State over the past five years, capturing four state titles in five years. In the past three seasons, Pickens compiled a thirty-eight win and no loss record in Region I Class AAA play and a seventy-three win and no loss regular season and playoff record; and

Whereas, Head Coach Peggy Anthony coached her last game for Pickens. She led the "Blue Flame" to the state championship game and finished her career with seven hundred thirty-seven wins and only one hundred fifty losses. Coach Anthony also captured nine state titles in her career at Pickens High School; and

Whereas, the ladies from Pickens High School met the ladies from Camden in the championship game of the state tournament for the second straight year, and with their family and friends cheering them on, the "Blue Flame" won by scores of 15-1, 15-2, and 15-3, giving Pickens the Class AAA State Championship; and

Whereas, the 2002 Pickens Varsity Girls Volleyball Team made up of disciplined student-athletes including Elizabeth Rivers, Carolyn Rivers, Lauren Blackwell, Karey Kelley, Katie Bridges, Kelli Constance, Augusta Bryant, Erin Owens, Rebecca Wilson, Sarah Javdan-Inalloo, Erin Winchester, Kathryn Clayton, Magen Peterson, Nikki Anthony, Megan Hendricks, Shanna Hughes, and Jessica Gravely; the players were led by Head Coach Peggy Anthony and Assistant Coaches Janet Phillips and Mellie Durham, with support and encouragement from Athletic Director Steve Corn, managers Luke Baker, Levi Reed, and Heath Fields, and Principal Marion Lawson; and

Whereas, the players, coaches, and staff of the 2002 Pickens High School Varsity Girls Volleyball Team committed themselves to a season of excellence to win the state championship for the third consecutive year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Pickens High School Varsity Girls Volleyball Team on winning their third consecutive Class AAA Volleyball State Championship, commend the players, coaches, and staff of Pickens High School Varsity Girls Volleyball Team for a season of spirited competition and tremendous success, and wish them every success in their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Peggy Anthony and the Varsity Girls Volleyball Team of Pickens High School.
