VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE DEEP APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF SOUTH CAROLINA FOR THEIR UNWAVERING DEDICATION TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF THIS STATE AND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING IMPACT ON OUR COMMUNITIES ON THE OCCASION OF THE "YOUTH OF THE YEAR CELEBRATION" APRIL 10 AND 11, 2003.
Whereas, approximately sixty Boys and Girls Clubs across South Carolina are administered by trained professionals and volunteers who are committed to developing necessary leadership skills and character traits in today's youth; and
Whereas, these clubs encourage this state's young people to enhance their social and work skills by promoting academics, personal growth, and effective communication; and
Whereas, for over a century, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America have served as leading organizations in youth development and have been dedicated to promoting positive attitudes and strong work ethic in the future leaders of this nation; and
Whereas, the Youth of the Year Award, the highest honor that a club member can receive, recognizes young people who exemplify hard work and determination in their everyday lives and, in the past, has afforded these people the chance to meet the President of the United States and be honored at a Congressional breakfast in Washington, D.C.; and
Whereas, those who are chosen as winners of this prestigious award are given the chance to appear before Congressional Committees to speak on teen issues, appear on television and radio news programs, and serve as ambassadors to other youth organizations throughout the country; and
Whereas, all of the members of the Boys and Girls Clubs across the United States, and especially those in South Carolina, are to be commended for being involved with this influential and important organization; and
Whereas, because of these dedicated young people, we are assured of a promising future for our communities, our State, and our nation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their deep appreciation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Carolina for their unwavering dedication to the young people of this State and for their outstanding impact on our communities on the occasion of the "Youth of the Year Celebration" April 10 and 11, 2003.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Office of the Midlands Boys and Girls Clubs.
