A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO DR. RONALD W. HAMPTON OF CHERAW, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS PRESIDENT OF NORTHEASTERN TECHNICAL COLLEGE, FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THIS STATE THROUGH HIS WORK IN HIGHER EDUCATION, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the education of South Carolina's young people is of utmost importance to this General Assembly and to the citizens of this State; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of those incredible individuals who have dedicated their lives to improving South Carolina's schools and promoting the need for higher education in today's society; and

Whereas, Dr. Ronald W. Hampton of Cheraw is the current President of Northeastern Technical College and has devoted his professional career to enhancing education and economic development throughout this State; and

Whereas, for over forty years, he has tirelessly given his time and energy to provide more flexible and responsive educational programs and better job opportunities to South Carolinians; and

Whereas, Northeastern Technical College has made tremendous strides with Dr. Hampton as its leader, and during his twenty-six year tenure as President, enrollment has more than doubled, the physical facilities of the college have expanded and become more technologically advanced, and the college has established campuses in Dillon, Bennettsville, and Pageland; and

Whereas, Dr. Hampton has also contributed to the field of higher education through service as a member on the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and he has led South Carolina's Technical College System to become nationally recognized as an exemplary organization; and

Whereas, Dr. Hampton will be deeply missed at Northeastern Technical College upon his retirement as President on June 30, 2003. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly extend their appreciation to Dr. Ronald W. Hampton of Cheraw, on the occasion of his retirement as President of Northeastern Technical College, for his many years of service to this State through his work in higher education, and wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Ronald W. Hampton of Cheraw.
