A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE MANY WONDERFUL ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE LATE MYRTLE BEACH POLICE OFFICER JIM MCKNIFF ON THE OCCASION OF BEING AWARDED POSTHUMOUSLY THE ESPRIT DE CORPS AWARD BY THE MYRTLE BEACH ROTARY CLUB.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the recent death of Private First Class Jim McKniff of the Myrtle Beach Police Department; and

Whereas, during the last months of his life, Officer McKniff battled cancer as he returned to work for the department, excelling at any job which was assigned to him; and

Whereas, his attitude and personal demeanor were an inspiration to all with whom he came in contact; and

Whereas, despite fighting this life-threatening illness, Jim was an inspiration to his fellow officers, always providing a listening ear to those having questions about cancer patients; and

Whereas, in his work with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, he always conducted himself with the utmost professionalism, trying to change negative attitudes into positive ones; and

Whereas, even people who received traffic summons from him would write the department extolling the virtues of this officer, citing the professional manner in which the summons was issued; and

Whereas, from changing tires for people involved in accidents to giving directions with a smile, Jim McKniff was a poster child for what the ideal police officer should be; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives do sincerely hope that the life and death of Officer McKniff stand as a constant reminder of the man who epitomized what serving as a law enforcement officer should be. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives wish to recognize the many wonderful accomplishments of the late Myrtle Beach Police Officer Jim McKniff on the occasion of being awarded posthumously the Esprit de Corps Award by the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Officer McKniff's wife, Liz McKniff.
