A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE WEST ASHLEY HIGH SCHOOL "WILDCATS" GIRLS SOCCER TEAM OF CHARLESTON COUNTY ON WINNING BACK-TO-BACK CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES AND TO COMMEND THE HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION OF THE PLAYERS, COACHES, STAFF, AND FAMILIES FOR THEIR 2003 CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN.

Whereas, West Ashley High School "Wildcats" Girls Soccer Team ended the season with an outstanding record of twenty-one wins and only three losses and a spectacular State Championship win against Mauldin High School on Friday, May 16, 2003; and

Whereas, the "Wildcats" won the State Championship in overtime when Demetria Gibbs scored the game-winning goal that secured the three to two victory over the unbeaten Mauldin team; and

Whereas, this State Championship game was the second matchup between West Ashley and Mauldin. Last year the "Wildcats" beat Mauldin two to one; and

Whereas, under the exceptional leadership of Head Coach Drew McNeely, West Ashley was able to successfully defend their State Championship; and

Whereas, Demetria Gibbs scored two goals in the victory and Julie Bolt ended the game with one goal and one assist. Shelley Coleman and Alechia Brothers, the goalkeepers for West Ashley, held the Mavericks to just two goals; and

Whereas, the General Assembly, along with the students, faculty, families and faithful fans of West Ashley High School, are extremely proud of these fine young women athletes, their team spirit and unity, superb talent, and thrilling 2003 season. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the West Ashley High School "Wildcats" Girls Soccer Team on winning back-to-back Class AAAA State Championship Titles and commend the hard work and determination of the players, coaches, families and staff for their 2003 Class AAAA State Championship win.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the West Ashley High School "Wildcats" Girls Soccer Team and Head Coach Drew McNeely.
