VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-3-25 SO AS TO DEVOLVE THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION UPON THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR; TO PROVIDE THAT FUNDS APPROPRIATED TO THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION MUST BE APPROPRIATED TO THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR; AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE COMPENSATION OF THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION IS NOT DIMINISHED AS LONG AS THE OFFICE EXISTS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 3, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-3-25. (A) The powers and duties of the State Superintendent of Education are devolved upon the Office of the Governor.
(B) All funds appropriated by the General Assembly through the annual state budget ordering appropriations to the State Superintendent of Education must be appropriated to the office of the Governor for the purposes of this act.
(C) Nothing in this section shall diminish the compensation of the State Superintendent of Education as long as the office exists."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
