A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO SHERIFF TOMMY MIMS, JR., OF SUMTER COUNTY, FOR HIS SIXTEEN YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS SHERIFF AND CONVEY TO HIM BEST WISHES UPON HIS RETIREMENT AND IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the General Assembly recognize South Carolinians who are dedicated to our State and who give their time and energy to help build a sense of togetherness among the people of their communities; and

Whereas, it is particularly appropriate to recognize the great achievements of the people who serve the public and ensure the safety of the citizens of this State; and

Whereas, Sheriff Tommy Mims has honorably served Sumter County in law enforcement for over thirty-four years, sixteen of those years as sheriff, and his presence as sheriff, both in the department and in the community, will be sorely missed; and

Whereas, at age sixty-three, Sheriff Mims believes that it is time to retire and that being elected to public office is one of the highest honors he has ever received; and

Whereas, during his sixteen years as sheriff, Tommy Mims has formed lasting bonds with the Sumter city and county councils as well as with the members of the Sumter community; and

Whereas, one of his greatest achievements while in office was developing strong ties and reaching out to all parts of the community of Sumter County and this has enabled Sheriff Mims to more effectively protect and serve the overall population of Sumter; and

Whereas, after he retires in January 2005, Sheriff Mims plans on taking some time away from work and enjoying things for which there is now little time; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives would like to publicly recognize this outstanding public official for all that he has done to make Sumter County a better place to live and work on the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to Sheriff Tommy Mims, Jr., of Sumter County, for his sixteen years of distinguished service as sheriff and convey to him best wishes upon his retirement and in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sheriff Tommy Mims, Jr.
